KwaZulu Natal - The Kingdom of the Zulus

The dramatic Drakensberg mountain range in KwaZulu Natal, where visitors can enjoy some of the most spectacular scenic views, offer some challenging Drakensberg Mountain hikes to even the most experienced mountain climbers. Many of the Drakensberg accommodation venues are host to well-stocked trout dams, horse riding, quad bike trails and many more activities which are generally available in mountainous terrain. In addition to the glorious Drakensberg Mountains, KwazuluNatal sports a magnificent sub-tropical coastline, lapped by the warm Indian Ocean. KwaZulu Natal beaches are a paradise for sunbathers, scuba divers and anglers alike. There are numerous Blue Flag beaches along the entire KZN Coastline which are regarded as safe swimming beaches, protected by shark nets. The Climate of KwaZulu Natal which ranges from about 10 degrees in winter to and average of about 32 degrees in Summer, offers ideal conditions for wildlife to flourish and it is home to many nature reserves, game parks and some of the oldest conservation areas in Africa. Northern KwaZulu Natal Game Reserves include, in particular Hluhluwe Game Reserve and Umfolozi Game Reserve. The Umfolozi Game Reserve accommodation only advertises self catering accommodation, Hilltop Game Reserve is situated in Hluhluwe and does offer catered game reserve accommodation. Tented camps are very popular in the Umfolozi Game reserve and wild animals are known to visit the camp sites - all very exciting.

KwaZulu Natal dive sites are known throughout the world. Scuba diving sites such as Aliwal shoal in Umkomaas and other scuba diving sites in Sodwana Bay, near St Lucia
