The Drakensberg Gardens Area is situated in the Southern Drakensberg and is closest to Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Accessed via the villages of Underberg and Himeville, the Drakensberg Gardens Area is ideal for a quiet mountain getaway.
Since the Drakensberg Mountain Range was the ancient home of the San Bushmen for centuries the entire area is rich in displays of San Rock Art and the Drakensberg Gardens area is no exception.
Hiking trails are a favoured activity by Berg visitors and the 5 day Giant's Cup Hiking Trail which covers a distance of 60 kilometres, traverses the Drakensberg Gardens Area.
The Himeville Nature Reserve and the Sani Pass are situated on the edge of the Drakensberg Gardens Area. Here the visitor can indulge in trout fishing, bird watching and game viewing and in the winter months may even enjoy the wonder of a snow covered landscape.
