Tout en Haut

“Tout en Haut” [ tootano -French for “at the top”] is located in Bergview Homeowners Estate, an access-controlled secure estate in the Central Drakensberg.

Tout en Haut is a well-appointed self-catering house/cottage which comfortably sleeps 8 – 6 adults and 2 children under 12. The cottage has 4 bedrooms with 3 bathrooms. The main bedroom en suite has a queen size bed and a private lounge area with a sliding door and large windows opening onto the garden with beautiful views of Champagne Valley. The second bedroom, with twin beds leads off from the main bedroom, which makes it the ideal family room. The 3rd bedroom with a bay window overlooking the garden has a king size bed and the 4th bedroom, another queen bed. The third and fourth bedrooms share a full bathroom with a bath. There is a third bathroom with a shower which has an outside entrance. Extra comfort includes heating in all the bedrooms for those winter evenings. A gas heater in the lounge makes for cosy evenings in front of the television, and at the fire pit on the deck. The deck, with sweeping views of Champagne Valley, is the perfect spot to spend lazy summer afternoons and evenings watching the beautiful night sky.

The house is equipped with a flat screen TV with a DSTV decoder and access to all DSTV channels as well as limited WIFI. A barbecue / braai facility – custom built by the original owner back in the 70’s, as well as a weber - is situated on the side of the house. Linen and towels are provided.

The peace and tranquillity of the mountains are not the only reasons to visit the Drakensberg. From the house, there is easy access to numerous walks and hikes, both up into the mountains, or down into the valleys with their impressive indigenous forests, and bountiful birdlife. Bergview Homeowners Estate boasts a recently established vulture-feeding station, which attracts several different raptors.

The valley offers many other forms of entertainment, including horse-riding, quad-biking, white-water rafting, mountain boarding, and world-class mountain bike trails for the more adventurous. Local craft such as carpet-weaving, grass basketry and world-renowned Ardmore pottery can be appreciated and purchased at source in the valley. The Drakensberg Boys' Choir – close by - performs every Wednesday.
